Basti warm oil therapy for the back, neck and knees

Basti is an Ayurvedic treatment in which a ring of dough is placed on one area of the body and filled with warm herbal oil, which is kept warm and left to soak in. Arogya Studio in Colindale offers it for the lower back (Kati Basti), neck and upper back (Greeva Basti), knees (Janu Basti), chest (Hridaya Basti) and abdomen (Nabhi Basti). Each session is 50 minutes and costs £80.

Nothing is asked of you except to lie still. The warmth is sustained and local, which is why it is the traditional choice for one stiff or tired area rather than the whole body.

Questions

Basti warm oil therapy: common questions.

What is Kati Basti?

Kati Basti is an Ayurvedic treatment for the lower back. A ring of dough is placed on the lower back and filled with warm herbal oil, which is kept warm for the length of the treatment. At Arogya Studio it lasts 50 minutes and costs £80.

How much does Basti therapy cost?

Every Basti treatment — lower back, neck, knees, chest or abdomen — is £80 for 50 minutes.

Will Basti treat my back or knee pain?

Basti is traditionally used to ease stiffness and tension, and is a relaxation therapy rather than a medical treatment. Please see your GP or a physiotherapist about persistent pain, an injury or sciatica.

Is this treatment for women only?

Yes. All hands-on treatments at Arogya Studio are for women only, in a private room with Dr Priyanka. Consultations are open to everyone.
